Jazz Chisholm Jr. snapped the Yankees’ 30-inning scoring drought with a solo home run in the second inning. Still, a critical error by shortstop Anthony Volpe in the eighth allowed the go-ahead run to score as the Los Angeles Angels defeated New York 3-2 on Wednesday night, extending the Yankees’ losing streak to six games.
The game was tied when Mike Trout and Taylor Ward opened the eighth inning with walks off Fernando Cruz (1-3), followed by a four-pitch walk to Luis Rengifo. Jo Adell then hit a hard ground ball to Volpe, who bobbled it and made an errant throw to second base. The misplay allowed Trout to score the decisive run.
New York has dropped eight of its last 18 contests, with this current slide marking its worst since a nine-game losing streak in August 2023.
Chisholm’s second-inning homer inside the right field foul pole ended New York’s longest scoreless stretch since a 33-inning drought in September 2016. Cody Bellinger added a solo home run in the fourth to give the Yankees a brief 2-1 lead.
But Adell answered immediately for the Angels, launching a solo homer on the first pitch of the fifth inning from Ryan Yarbrough to tie the game again. Adell also drove the grounder, which led to the winning run.
Nolan Schanuel got the Angels on the board early with a leadoff home run—his third pitch of the game—marking a franchise-first five-game winning streak at Yankee Stadium, both old and new.
Jack Kochanowicz delivered one of his strongest outings yet for Los Angeles, allowing just two runs on two hits across 5 2/3 innings while striking out a career-high eight and issuing three walks.
Closer Kenley Jansen sealed the win with a strikeout of Volpe for his 15th save of the season.
