Mike Trout and Logan O’Hoppe each blasted two-run homers during a massive seven-run fifth inning, powering the Los Angeles Angels to a 10-4 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night.
Trout broke a 3-3 tie with a 429-foot rocket to center field, his seventh homer of the season, coming off a 107 mph exit velocity. Moments later, O’Hoppe crushed a full-count sinker from Guardians starter Tanner Bibee (1-1) to left-center, extending the lead to 7-3.
The Angels weren’t done in the fifth. Nolan Schanuel singled, Jo Adell walked, and Tim Anderson drove both in with a bloop double. Taylor Ward capped the outburst with an RBI single to make it 10-3.
Rookie Jack Kochanowicz (1-0) earned his first major league win, giving up three runs (two earned) and four hits over five innings, including solo homers by Carlos Santana and Bo Naylor. He struck out four and walked three.
Los Angeles jumped out early with a three-run first inning. Luis Rengifo led off with a homer, Trout drew a walk, and Jorge Soler followed with a towering two-run blast to center.
Bibee struggled throughout, surrendering seven runs on eight hits—four of them homers—over four innings.
Key Moment
Cleveland loaded the bases at the top of the fifth, with the score still tied 3-3. But Kochanowicz regrouped, getting Kyle Manzardo to fly out to center and escape the jam, setting up the Angels’ explosive rally in the bottom half.
Key Stat
Both Trout and O’Hoppe have now homered in three straight games. It’s the first time that O’Hoppe has achieved the feat; it is the 16th time in Trout’s career he’s achieved it.
