Jorge Polanco continued his hot streak, launching two home runs and collecting five RBIs to lead the Seattle Mariners past the Los Angeles Angels 5-3 on Tuesday night.

Polanco opened the scoring with a three-run homer in the second inning, giving Seattle an early lead. He added a two-run blast off Angels reliever José Fermin in the seventh — his ninth of the season — extending the Mariners’ lead to 5-1. Polanco, named the American League’s Player of the Week, is on a tear with 12 RBIs and six homers over his last six games.

Seattle starter Bryce Miller turned in a strong performance, allowing just two hits and striking out six over five shutout innings. Polanco’s bat backed his effort, as Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz held his outside of the three-run homer in the second.

Logan O’Hoppe hit a solo home run for the Angels in the seventh, and Los Angeles rallied for two more in the eighth on RBI doubles by Nolan Schanuel and Jorge Soler. However, Andrés Muñoz closed the door in the ninth for his 11th save, securing Seattle’s 17th win of the season and their fifth in the last six games.

In the second inning, with two outs and two runners on via walks, Polanco turned on a sinker from Kochanowicz and sent it soaring over the right-center field fence to put Seattle up 3-0.
