Kyle Hendricks secured the 100th win of his major league career on Friday night as the Los Angeles Angels held off the Seattle Mariners for a 5-4 victory at Angel Stadium.

Hendricks (3-6) went six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking two. The veteran right-hander worked through a critical jam in the fifth, stranding runners on second and third by getting Randy Arozarena to ground out and preserve a one-run lead.

The Angels’ bullpen locked down the final three innings. Ryan Zeferjahn worked a clean seventh, Reid Detmers struck out two in the eighth, and Kenley Jansen tossed a perfect ninth for his 13th save.

Seattle’s Bryce Miller (2-5) surrendered five runs on six hits over five innings in the loss. The Mariners have now dropped four straight.

The Angels pulled ahead in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. Jo Adell was hit in the helmet by a fastball and then stole second before Chris Taylor delivered an RBI double. Nolan Schanuel followed with a run-scoring single to make it 5-4.

Taylor, who joined the Angels after being released by the Dodgers in May, also had a clutch two-out single and stolen base in the third. He scored on Zach Neto’s RBI hit to tie the game at 1-1. In the fourth, Travis d’Arnaud blasted a two-run homer following Jorge Soler’s two-out single to knot the game at 3-3.

Seattle scored in the third on J.P. Crawford’s RBI single and added two more in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Rowdy Tellez and an RBI groundout from Leody Taveras.

Key Moment

Julio Rodríguez made a highlight-reel catch to end the sixth, leaping at the center field wall to rob Taylor of a two-run homer. After teasing Angels fans by walking the warning track, he revealed the catch by casually transferring the ball from glove to hand.

Key Stat

Reid Detmers, now in a bullpen role, has posted a 0.75 ERA over his last 11 appearances, allowing just one earned run in 12 innings while striking out 17. That stretch has dropped his season ERA from 10.05 to 5.81.

Up Next

The Mariners will send RHP Luis Castillo (4-3, 3.03 ERA) to the mound on Saturday, while the Angels counter with RHP Jack Kochanowicz (3-7, 5.34 ERA).
