Trent Grisham and Paul Goldschmidt launched back-to-back home runs in the second inning, sparking the New York Yankees to a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday and ending their six-game losing streak.

Yankees starter Carlos Rodón (9-5) overcame a rough start, giving up three solo home runs but limiting the Angels to just four hits across six innings. He struck out seven and walked one in sweltering 89-degree heat. The outing was a solid rebound after two tough starts against Boston.

The Yankees, who lead the AL East, avoided being swept in four games at home for the first time since September 2021 and snapped their longest skid since dropping nine straight in August 2023.

Mike Trout, Jo Adell, and Taylor Ward each went deep off Rodón, but the Angels couldn’t close out what would have been their first-ever four-game sweep of the Yankees.

Cody Bellinger led New York’s 12-hit attack with three hits, including an RBI single in the seventh that padded the lead to 5-3. Aaron Judge doubled in the eighth before a brief rain delay and later scored on Anthony Volpe’s groundout. Austin Wells added a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Angels lefty Tyler Anderson (2-5) surrendered four runs on eight hits over six innings. After taking a comebacker off his lower right leg in the sixth, he remained in the game but suffered his fifth straight loss.

Key Moment

After Adell’s homer gave the Angels a 2-1 lead in the top of the second, Grisham responded with a two-run shot following DJ LeMahieu’s single. Goldschmidt then followed with a liner down the left-field line for a solo homer, giving New York a 4-2 advantage they wouldn’t relinquish.

Key Stat

Grisham has homered 10 times this season in tie-breaking or go-ahead situations.
