Christian Moore, the Los Angeles Angels’ top prospect, delivered a dramatic performance Tuesday night, blasting a game-tying home run in the eighth inning and a two-run walk-off homer in the 10th to lift the Angels past the Boston Red Sox, 3-2.
Moore, the eighth overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, tied the game with a solo shot off Greg Weissert in the eighth. After the Red Sox briefly regained the lead on Marcelo Mayer’s RBI single in the top of the 10th, Moore launched a slider from Justin Wilson (2-1) just over the right field wall to seal the win — his third big-league home run and the biggest moment yet in his 11-game career.
Boston starter Garrett Crochet struck out 10 and allowed just three hits over seven scoreless innings, continuing his league-leading strikeout pace. He issued three walks but didn’t surrender a run for the first time in over two months.
Mayer, who finished with three of Boston’s five hits, tripled in the third inning and scored the game’s opening run on Nate Eaton’s sacrifice fly.
Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson was solid, giving up just two hits while pitching into the fifth. The bullpen held firm, and Reid Detmers (3-2) won despite allowing the go-ahead run in the 10th.
Shortstop Zach Neto exited in the ninth after appearing to injure himself on an error that allowed Romy Gonzalez to reach base. Kenley Jansen worked out of the jam to keep the score tied.
Key Moment
Moore’s 10th-inning homer flipped the game on its head, sneaking inside the foul pole in right field and capping a thrilling comeback.
