The Los Angeles Angels used a pair of three-run outbursts in the 10th and 11th innings to pull off a 9-7 extra-inning victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.

Kyren Paris broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the 11th with a go-ahead RBI single, and Yoán Moncada followed with a two-run double to give the Angels a 9-6 lead. Though the Cardinals scratched across a run in the bottom half, reliever Ryan Zeferjahn held on to secure his first career save, fanning Willson Contreras to end the game.

It was the Angels’ second consecutive extra-inning win over the Cardinals, and rookie Ryan Johnson (1-0) notched his first big league victory in relief.

Nolan Schanuel delivered a two-run triple in the 10th inning to give the Angels a 5-3 lead after committing a key error in the eighth. Schanuel later scored on a Jo Adell single. But the Cardinals answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the 10th, including a two-run double by Luke Baker and an RBI single from Nolan Arenado to tie the game at 6.

St. Louis reliever Chris Roycroft (0-1) gave up three runs, two earned, in the 11th and took the loss.

Jordan Walker homered and drove in two runs for the Cardinals, launching a 419-foot shot to dead center. Arenado finished with two RBI.

Key Moment

In the bottom of the eighth, the Cardinals tied the game 3-3 when Arenado’s slow roller to first was mishandled. Schanuel’s low throw past pitcher Ben Joyce rolled into the dugout, allowing Lars Nootbaar to score from third.

The Angels improved to 4-1 for the first time since 2021 and climbed three games above .500 for the first time since August 2, 2023.
