Jo Adell crushed a two-run homer during a chaotic six-run sixth inning as the Los Angeles Angels rallied past the Oakland Athletics 6-5 on Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep at Angel Stadium.
Adell’s 13th homer of the season—and his sixth in his last nine games—proved to be the difference as the Angels erased a three-run deficit. His blast followed a wild sequence that began with Athletics starter JP Sears exiting and being ejected moments later after arguing balls and strikes from the dugout.
Reliever Grant Holman (4-2) entered with one out in the sixth, promptly walked Mike Trout on a full count to load the bases, then hit Taylor Ward to force in a run. Jorge Soler followed with a two-run single that slipped through the infield to tie the game at 3-3. After Sears was tossed for protesting the strike zone, Osvaldo Bido took over and gave up a go-ahead sacrifice fly to Travis d’Arnaud before Adell capped the rally with his two-run shot.
Brent Rooker did his best to keep the A’s in it, launching two homers among four hits, driving in three, and scoring three times. His second homer in the seventh trimmed the Angels’ lead to 6-5.
Kyle Hendricks (4-6) gave Los Angeles six solid innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. Reid Detmers worked a flawless ninth for his second save.
The A’s, now 4-23 in their last 27 games, were again without standout rookie Jacob Wilson, who missed his second straight contest with a sore hamstring.
