Connor Norby had three hits, including a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning, to power the Miami Marlins past the Los Angeles Angels 6-2 on Saturday night, snapping the Angels’ eight-game winning streak.
Norby launched his third homer of the season on a 1-2 pitch from Caden Dana (0-1), helping Miami snap a three-game skid.
Taylor Ward doubled and scored in the ninth for the Angels, extending his streak to 10 consecutive games with an extra-base hit — a new franchise record.
The Marlins grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Liam Hicks drew a leadoff walk and later scored on Ronny Simon’s two-out single off Angels starter José Soriano.
Zach Neto opened the fourth with a double, and Yoán Moncada followed with a one-out single to put runners on the corners, chasing Marlins starter Cal Quantrill after only 46 pitches. Reliever Ronny Henriquez (2-1) entered and surrendered a sacrifice fly to Ward to tie the game before striking out Jorge Soler to limit the damage.
Miami pulled ahead 3-1 in the fifth when Eric Wagaman’s two-out RBI single capped a two-run frame. The Marlins broke the game open in the seventh with Norby’s three-run homer.
Janson Junk pitched five innings of one-run ball in relief against his former club to earn his first career save.
Soriano took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.
